This US DOE report profiles eight charter schools that have successfully closed the achievement gap.
The US DOE highlighted its new report, Charter High Schools: Closing the Achievement Gap at the 2007 Showcase.
The eight schools profiled are:
- Gateway High School in San Francisco
- Media and Technology Charter High School (MATCH) in Boston
- Minnesota New Country School in Henderson, MN
- North Star Academy Charter School of Newark in Newark, NJ
- The Preuss School in La Jolla, CA [Session notes]
- The SEED School of Washington, DC
- Toledo School for the Arts in Toledo, OH [Session notes]
- YES College Prepatory School, Southeast Campus in Houston, TX

This pilot study of student achievement in charter schools found no measurable difference between students in charters and in other public schools who shared common characteristics. The study also acknowledged that it presents only a snapshot of the charter schools as they continue to evolve.
