The CSAO presented a revised 2007-09 biennium budget proposal to the BOE Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability on October 18, 2006.

UPDATE: BOE budget committee deferred the proposed CSAO budget for a second time at October 4th meeting.  

 The CSAO presents a revised 2007-09 biennium budget proposal to the BOE Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability on October 4, 2006.

The recommendation memo says:

"It is recommended that the Board of Education (Board) Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability (Committee) approve the Charter Schools Operating Budget request for fiscal biennium 2007-09.

"The Charter Schools 2007 budget ceiling is $47,456,143.  The Charter Schools Biennium Operating Budget request for fiscal year 2008 totals $58,378,903.  The Charter Schools Biennium Operating Budget request for fiscal year 2009 totals $61,866,717."

UPDATE: BOE budget committee deferred the proposed CSAO budget until October 4th meeting.    
Biennium budget process begins with request submitted to BOE budget committee

On September 20, 2006 Chief Financial Officer Bob Roberts presented the CSAO's proposed operating budget for the 2007-09 biennium to the BOE Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability.

The proposal calls for increased funding for Hawaii's charter schools due to:

    • increased enrollment,
    • additional start-up charters,
    • new budgeting requirements enacted under the Act 298, and
    • adjustments against the CAFR.

In his memo, CFO Roberts says the following:

"It is recommended that the Board of Education (Board) Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability (Committee) approve the Charter Schools Operating Budget request for fiscal biennium 2007-09.

"The Charter Schools 2007 budget ceiling is $47,456,143.  The Charter Schools Biennium Operating Budget request for fiscal year 2008 totals $69,590,163.  The Charter Schools Biennium Operating Budget request for fiscal year 2009 totals $73,704,414."
