Hawai'i's Public Charter Schools are subject to NCLB
NCLB is a federal law that requires public schools (K-12) to demonstrate student proficiency and progress. Each school must report their test scores for math and reading annually. These scores, along with other factors (like teacher qualification and graduation rates)Â make up the school's Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) report. Schools that fail to meet AYP over several years face corrective action or restructuring.
Links to each charter school's AYP results can be found in the charter school profile directory: [add link when available]

To comply with NCLB requirements, a “highly qualified†teacher is defined as a teacher who:
(1)  Holds at least a bachelor’s degree and
(2)Â Â In each core academic subject taught:
- Has a Hawai'i license for teaching, or
- Has successfully completed a state approved teachers education program, or
- Has successfully completed an undergraduate major, a graduate degree, course work equivalent to an undergraduate major, or advanced certification or credential.
There is an exception in the NCLB law that recognizes teachers who are participating in an alternative route to licensure.
