Historically, native Hawaiian students have been among to most underserved and under achieving students in Hawai’i’s traditional public schools. A number of Hawai’i’s public charter schools were established to address the particular educational needs of native Hawaiians.
These schools are culturally-driven, family-oriented and community-based public charter schools aimed at allowing all stakeholders to achieve their highest level, while actively contributing to the perpetuation of Hawai’i’s indigenous language, culture and traditions.
Fourteen of Hawai’i’s 27 public charter schools have a Native Hawaiian cultural focus. They are:
