20 seats available to charter school teachers

We have been working hard to get a Guided Reading training set up for our school and for any other charter school participants who can come -- up to 20 participants each session.  As this is to be paid for by Title II funds that Dr. Rizor applied for already, there would be no charge for teachers from charter schools!  [No charge for the course only.]

Thank you!

Alternative training program focuses on the educational needs of Hawaiian indigenous students

Located at the Halau Wanana Center for Higher Learning (on the Big Island) Holomua gives teachers in Hawai'i an alternative training program specifically aimed at meeting the educational needs of Hawai'i's indigenous student population and satisfying the NCLB requirement for "highly qualified" teachers.

Now that the program has received official recognition from the HTSB, teacher candidates completing Holomua's Hawaiian-based, culturally-focused program satisfy their teacher education requirement for licensing in the State of Hawai'i beginning.

Based on the idea that great schools begin with great teachers, the National Board for Teaching Standards has establish professional standards that define what an accomplished teacher should know and be able to do. By achieving national board certification a teacher demonstrates that he or she has met these professional standards.

Twenty-four certificate areas are defined. Some areas are defined by subject or discipline and include art, career and technical education, counseling, English as a new language, language arts, music, science, and social studies. Other areas are defined by student age group.
